Governors Island
urbs is involved as one of the founding partners for the team led by Stony Brook University for the development of a climate exchange on Governors Island in New York City. urbs is involved in sustainable infrastructure development for this project in collaboration with various partners from around the world.
The New York Climate Exchange (The Exchange) Powered by Stony Brook University is envisioned to be a public platform touching every aspect of New York’s economy, culture, social fabric, and international influence. It will define innovation and leadership in global climate change adaptation, mitigation and sustainability.
The infrastructure development focuses on designing interventions at the intersectionality of water, energy, waste, and transport. The exchange will generate transformative environmental, economic and social solutions to the climate crisis by creating partnerships with local schools and institutions, and convening thought leaders and key stakeholders—including previously excluded communities —to develop solutions for the most critical climate change issues facing our city and our planet.
The Exchange will be a living laboratory that convenes the top minds on climate change to experiment, discover, and lead the way in the global response to climate change. It will grow in phases over time and will build on and enhance the existing assets of Governors Island.
